Gene Summary for AGER Gene

Official Symbol AGER Gene Type protein-coding
Full Name advanced glycosylation end-product specific receptor Entrez 177
Ensembl ID ENSG00000204305 HGNC 320
Aliases RAGE, SCARJ1 Chromosome Location Chromosome 6, NC_000006.12 (32180969..32184380, complement)
Expression Biased expression in lung (RPKM 397.6) and spleen (RPKM 11.0)
Summary The advanced glycosylation end product (AGE) receptor encoded by this gene is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell surface receptors. It is a multiligand receptor, and besides AGE, interacts with other molecules implicated in homeostasis, development, and inflammation, and certain diseases, such as diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. Many alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms, as well as non-protein-coding variants, have been described for this gene (PMID:18089847). [provided by RefSeq, May 2011]

Conclusion
24441189 X C Xu 2013 RAGE Upregulation of RAGE expression is associated with lymph node metastases of gastric cancer, and blockade of RAGE signaling suppresses growth and invasion of gastric cancer cells through AKT pathway, suggesting that RAGE may represent a potential therapeutic target for this aggressive malignancy.
