| Summary |
This gene encodes a member of the Argonaute family of proteins which play a role in RNA interference. The encoded protein is highly basic, and contains a PAZ domain and a PIWI domain. It may interact with dicer1 and play a role in short-interfering-RNA-mediated gene silencing. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Ago2 expression levels in primary GC and corresponding lymph node metastases were significantly higher compared with healthy controls. Ago2 was different between HER-2 positive and HER-2 negative groups. And there was a great correlation between Ago2 expression and the tumor differentiation, lymph node invasion and clinical stage. Ago2 was also correlated to patients' gender which may suggest a possible role of hormonal signal in the mechanisms of Ago2. |
